What book are you reading?
“Learning is like rowing upstream; not to advance is to drop back” – Chinese Proverb

I was speaking to a group of professionals the other day and asked them a simple question – “What book are you reading right now?”

They looked at me like I had asked for the square root of 546,457.

After some prodding, a few indicated that they read a great book last year.

Unfortunately, this is typical.

Most people are so obsessed with instant communication (text, email, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) that they can’t seem to find the time to learn something useful.

Learning doesn’t always require a book. It can be a video, podcast, seminar or even a blog ( Seth Godin is my favorite).

What are you doing to improve?

How to Save Time when Scheduling Online Marketing Updates

Hootsuite has a sweet bulk scheduling tool that I just discovered, and it is going to dramatically reduce how much time it takes me to complete my online marketing activities every week.

At its lowest level, Hootsuite is social media aggregator.  It basically takes all of your social networks, and puts them in one place, so you can post updates from one location instead of having to go to every site individually.

Hootsuite also offers a scheduling tool so you can post a Twitter or Facebook update that will actually show up hours (or days later).  This feature is especially helpful when you’re using social media as a marketing tool.  In an hours time, I can post 30 updates that show up online at specified times throughout the week.  This is how you can always have a presence in social media without constantly being on it.

Okay, so here’s the sweetest part.  When you’re in Hootsuite, click the message entry bar, and then click “schedule message”.  After the graphic calendar shows up, click “schedule in bulk”.  This option allows you to upload a .csv file with all of your updates at once, so you don’t have to type them in individually into the Hootsuite user interface.  This one option will cut the time you spend creating updates in half!

What other social media marketing aggregators or scheduling tools have you used to improve your online marketing productivity?
